EV & Hybrid High-Voltage Battery Diagnostics

Investigate battery-related faults through the vehicle's OBD connection, or communicate directly with supported battery packs using the EVDiag Box and the prescribed adapters.

Available battery information can include:

  • State of charge (SOC) and state of health (SOH).
  • Total pack voltage and current.
  • Cell or module voltage readings and voltage differences.
  • Battery temperatures, operating status and fault information.

These readings help assess the battery data available from the management system and identify abnormalities that require further investigation.

For supported applications, high-voltage system diagrams, connector information and guided procedures help identify the appropriate test connections. Off-vehicle battery-pack diagnosis is available for supported packs; connector and software coverage must be checked for the specific application.

High-voltage work requires qualified personnel and the procedures and equipment specified for the vehicle.

ECU Coding, Adaptations & BMW / Mercedes-Benz Programming

ECU coding and adaptations

Carry out supported module configuration, component matching, adaptations and relearn procedures after repairs or replacement. Available operations depend on the vehicle and ECU.

Programming through the tablet

Ultra EV supports programming for selected BMW and Mercedes-Benz vehicles, including supported module replacement and software-update procedures. Confirm the VIN, ECU reference and intended operation before purchasing for a programming job.

J2534 pass-thru programming

The included VCMI also provides a J2534 pass-thru interface for compatible manufacturer software. This route uses a suitable Windows computer, the required OEM software and account or subscription, and a programming power supply that meets the manufacturer's requirements.

The tablet's built-in programming coverage and a manufacturer's J2534 software workflow are separate routes. Manufacturer software licences and security credentials are not included in the tool price.

MaxiFlash VCMI: Five Functions in One Device

The included MaxiFlash VCMI combines vehicle communication and four electrical test functions:

FunctionWorkshop use
Vehicle communication interfaceConnect the tablet to supported vehicle systems for diagnostics and programming workflows.
4-channel oscilloscopeView and compare electrical waveforms when investigating circuit and component faults.
Waveform generatorGenerate supported test signals for diagnostic procedures.
MultimeterPerform electrical measurements within the instrument's specified ratings.
CAN bus testerCheck supported vehicle communication signals.

VCMI connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB. It supports modern vehicle communication protocols including CAN FD and DoIP, alongside its pass-thru capabilities.

Use the leads and probes specified for each test. Direct high-voltage measurements require appropriately rated equipment; EV battery communication adapters do not make ordinary oscilloscope leads suitable for high-voltage measurements.

Dynamic Topology Mapping & Full-System Diagnostics

View supported vehicle modules and their communication relationships in a colour-coded topology map. Identify modules reporting faults, inspect communication status and open the relevant diagnostic system from the map.

Full-system diagnostics provide access to available modules such as the engine or powertrain, transmission, ABS, SRS, body and chassis systems. Read and clear fault codes, review live data and investigate the systems relevant to the repair.

Topology and module access depend on the vehicle's network and software coverage.

Active Tests, Service Functions & Repair Guidance

Use available bi-directional active tests to command supported components and monitor their response. Service applications include:

  • Oil-service reset and electronic parking brake maintenance.
  • Steering-angle calibration and ABS bleeding.
  • DPF regeneration and injector coding.
  • Battery registration, throttle adaptations and other supported relearns.

Where available, repair assistance, DTC information and guided procedures support further fault investigation. Save diagnostic reports and use pre-scan and post-scan records to document vehicle condition and completed work.

Before You Buy: Autel MaxiSys Ultra EV

Clear answers about the included EVDiag Box and VCMI, vehicle coverage, programming, software updates, EU delivery and after-sales support before you place your order.

Is the Ultra EV genuine and can it be officially registered?

Yes. We supply brand-new, genuine Autel products.

Each device has its own serial number and registration information and can be registered through the official Autel system. Our support team can assist with registration and initial setup if required.

Does the package include both the EVDiag Box and MaxiFlash VCMI?

Yes. The core package includes:

  • Autel MaxiSys Ultra EV tablet
  • Original Autel MaxiFlash VCMI
  • Autel EVDiag Box
  • EV battery adapters and breakout leads for supported applications

You do not need to purchase the EVDiag Box or VCMI separately for this package. A particular battery pack may require an application-specific connection, so please check the required test with us before ordering.

Some J2534 operations may require:

  • A Windows PC

  • Compatible OE software

These third-party accounts and subscriptions are not included unless specifically stated.

Is the Ultra EV only for electric vehicles?

No. It supports diagnostics for compatible petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles.

It combines conventional full-system diagnostics with dedicated EV and hybrid battery diagnostic functions, making it suitable for workshops servicing different vehicle types.

Can it test every EV battery, and what does offline battery diagnosis mean?

Battery-pack diagnosis is available for supported vehicles and packs. Depending on the application, available data can include SOC, SOH, pack voltage, current, temperature and cell or module voltage information.

“Offline” battery-pack diagnosis means direct communication with a supported battery pack outside the vehicle, using the prescribed EVDiag Box connections. It does not mean that every function works without internet access.

Send us the VIN, battery-pack reference and required test so we can help check software and adapter coverage.
