Compare automotive diagnostic scanners with Active Test and bidirectional control for supported vehicles. Test components, actuators and system responses directly from the scanner.
What Active Test Helps You Do
Bidirectional Control
Send commands to supported vehicle modules and check how components or systems respond.
Component Testing
Test supported fans, pumps, valves, relays, ABS pumps and other actuators directly from the scanner.
For Workshops & Advanced Users
Ideal for users who need more than basic code reading, including live data, service resets and system-level diagnostics.
Compare Active Test Diagnostic Tools
Not every active test scanner is built for the same type of work. Use this comparison to see which tool is better suited for DIY diagnostics, advanced service work or small workshop use.

Note: Active Test, ECU coding and service functions vary by vehicle make, model, year and control module. Please contact us with your VIN if you need to confirm a specific function before purchase.
What Is Active Test?
Active Test, also known as bidirectional control or actuator testing, allows a diagnostic scanner to send commands to supported vehicle control modules. Instead of only reading fault codes, the scanner can help check whether selected components, actuators or systems respond correctly.
Depending on vehicle support, Active Test may help test components such as cooling fans, fuel pumps, relays, solenoids, ABS pumps, throttle bodies, EGR valves, windows, locks and other actuators.
For diesel vehicles, available tests may also include DPF regeneration, EGR tests, DEF/SCR system tests or injector-related functions, depending on vehicle support.
Vehicle Compatibility & Coverage
Need help checking ECU coding or active test coverage? Before purchase, send us your VIN number and the exact function you need, such as ECU coding, active test, battery registration, injector coding, DPF regeneration or service reset. Our team will help check compatibility before you order.
*Functions may vary depending on vehicle make, model, year, and installed control units.
FAQs
Before ordering, send us your VIN, vehicle year and the exact function you need. We can check whether the selected tool supports that function, or recommend a more suitable model.
Not always. Active Test coverage depends on the vehicle model, year, ECU and system. For example, one car may support fan or pump activation, while another may support DPF regeneration, EGR tests or injector tests. Please send us your VIN and required function before purchase.
Some tools support DPF regeneration, EGR tests, DEF/SCR tests or injector-related functions on supported vehicles. Diesel emissions functions are highly vehicle-specific, so we recommend checking by VIN first.
The difference is usually not just “Active Test yes or no”. Higher-level tools may offer wider vehicle coverage, more system access, better software support, ECU coding, stronger hardware and more stable workflow for regular use.
Active Test helps test components by commanding them directly. ECU coding is different: it changes settings or adaptations inside control modules. Some repairs only need active tests, while others may require coding or adaptation.
